Two months ago I set out from Middleburg, Florida to just outside of Trujillo, Peru. I am here for a total of three months working in a Christian orphanage with 43 children. As long as I can remeber I have always wanted to serve God on the foreign mission field by working with kids. It is so good to serve a God who works in peoples hearts and lives all around the world.
I am 18 years old and I was always in a hurry for God to use me in another country. Once I got here I began to look back on how God was and still is preparing me for his service. Even the ¨unrecorded¨ events of a persons life is very important. Moses lived 40 years away from Egypt before God spoke to him in the burning bush and made him a great leader. Jesus was 30 before he began his public ministry. What was happening? God was working, preparing and equiping for his perfect timing. I am so excited for the oppurtunities God gives me to serve and my joy is complete when he gives me the boldness to speak of his son. I think that it is important for all Christians in the United States or in a diffrent country to be actively serving in their schools, churches, families, and communities, following Christ´s example.
Although I wish I could speak more Spanish it is such a joy to share the love of Jesus through spending time with the kids, huging them, smiling with them, and reading the word together. The kids come from diffrent backgrounds from poverty to abuse, they need a lot of prayer as God soften their hearts through his word and his people.
How I got here and What I´m doing.
I found out about this particular orphanage through an acquaintance who had volunteered here in January. I got hooked up with the orphanage through her and set up my time here directly with the orphanage. I work in the on campus school in the mornings for the kids who weren´t in school before, have behavioral problems, or learning disabiblities. I work one on one with several of the children practicing counting, addition, colors, shapes, and letter sounds. In the afternoons, I work with five students in language therapy which is pretty much moving excersizing the tounge and saying words correctly and learning the letters and their sounds.
